Jonathan R. Poole

Jonathan focuses his practice on litigation, education law and employment law. He has represented colleges and universities in matters involving employment law, disability law, faculty misconduct, FERPA, student discipline, teacher discipline, tenure and regulatory compliance. Jonathan is a member of the School and College Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, as well as the National Association of College and University Attorneys.

In employment matters, Jonathan defends employers before administrative agencies, and in state and federal courts through all stages of litigation, including trial, appeal, mediation and arbitration. He has successfully defended numerous discrimination cases arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family and Medical Leave Act and Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as a variety of employment-related tort cases. He also provides advice, counseling and training to employers designed to minimize their exposure to claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of contract, torts and workers' compensation.

He also has extensive experience in both defending and bringing class action lawsuits.

Jonathan’s background also includes insurance defense and workers' compensation.

He has spoken at numerous employment law related programs, as well as published materials regarding employment law matters.

Jonathan was selected for inclusion in the 2010 and 2011 Georgia SuperLawyer Rising Stars list by Atlanta Magazine. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar Association. He is also a member of the General Practice and Trial Law and the Labor and Employment Law Sections of the State Bar of Georgia, and the Young Lawyer Division of the State Bar of Georgia where he is on the Advocates for Students with Disabilities and Community Service Committees. Jonathan was selected to participate in the 2010 Younger Lawyers Division Leadership Academy. He is also a Barrister in the Bleckley Inn of Court and serves on the Graduate Leadership Council of the Georgia State University College of Law.

He received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Georgia, and earned his J.D. cum laude from the Georgia State University College of Law. While in law school, Jonathan was Assistant Legislative Editor of the Georgia State University Law Review, and served as Chair of the Law Review Disciplinary Panel. Jonathan also served as an Honor Court Justice and as Philanthropy Chair of Phi Alpha Delta. He was awarded a Public Interest Law Fellowship and the Georgia State University Public Service Award for his pro bono work.
